Located east of Doha, the site of the 2006 Games spreads over nearly 130 ha and is dominated by the Sports Tower, the event's landmark building.
With its parabolic shape it looks like a flaming torch which at its 300 m summit supports the famous flame, visible from all around. The central concrete superstructure supports the various overhanging modules of the program: a hotel, a presidential suite, a sports museum, a restaurant and finally, a panoramic floor. The whole structure is wrapped in transparent metal mesh with a tighter knit on the south side shaped like a half-moon to filter the light, and whose porosity increases from the bottom to the top of the tower for improved wind resistance.
