A new generation of "drive-in" station

  • Client: SNCF Gares & Connexions
  • Project management: SNCF - Agence Duthilleul - AREP / E. Tricaud, F. Bonnefille
  • Structure: MaP3
  • Delivery: 2017
The most noticeable and distinctive feature of the station is the above-ground silo car park on its south side which dovetails with the passenger building.
Both the location and design of the building create a new green public space which ensures spatial continuity with the urban surroundings. The concourse of the passenger building houses services and retail outlets, all laid out around a central space. A large glazed facade allows for natural daylight to flood in. The site's core circulation is hosted at the junction point between the car park and the passenger building and provides access to all levels. The project is part of a broader reflection aiming to regenerate the economic development of both the Belcier district and the Armagnac urban block.

A new Hall for Bordeaux Station

The brand-new Hall 3 of Bordeaux Saint-Jean station will be unveiled to the inhabitants of Bordeaux and users of the station from 11am on Friday 28 April 2017. The new building, designed by AREP in line with the renovation of the historic building, features specially designed furniture made of red leather, timber and corrugated iron.

The new building is designed to accommodate 2,500m² of halls and circulations, 1,800m² of services and retail outlets, 860 parking spaces and 370 secure bike racks. It will also accommodate 30% of the passenger flow, thus responding to the expected increase in passenger numbers due to the opening of the Sud Europe Atlantique high-speed rail line in July 2017. From this point forward, Bordeaux will be only two hours and four minutes away from Paris (instead of the current three hours and fifteen minutes).

The project was another opportunity for AREP Group to provide a wide range of services, such as design, engineering, programming, project management, and follow-up of the works.
