LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE FOR HELLEMMES TRAIN MAINTENANCE FACILITY
The construction of a new 26,300 m² train maintenance facility is getting underway on the site of the Hellemmes Technicentre in northern France. The building features an innovative design, which is in line with the guidelines set by the new regulations on energy transition.
With nearly 1,000 employees, it is the largest SNCF industrial facility in France, repairing some 27,000 items each year. Designed by AREP and built by Ramery Bâtiment for SNCF Immobilier, the Hellemmes maintenance facility will be the first SNCF industrial building to meet the energy efficiency standards that will come into effect in 2020.
The project's recommendations and the choice of materials are part of an environmental approach aimed at obtaining an E+C- label (energy performance and reduction of carbon footprint). With a capacity of 1.8MW/year, the rooftop photovoltaic power plant will ensure energy self-sufficiency.
On Tuesday 27 November, Franck Gherbi, Mayor of Hellemmes, Xavier Ouin, Managing Director of SNCF Matériel and Industrial Director of SNCF Mobilités, and Benoît Quignon, Managing Director of SNCF Immobilier, laid the foundation stone of the maintenance facility.
