After adopting trams and refurbishing its historic squares, the capital of Lorraine in Eastern France, intends to enhance the railway lines that touch the old city at a tangent and provide a high quality city centre on the TGV's doorstep.
Conscious of the area’s exceptional location at the gateway to the historic town centre in the immediate vicinity of a TGV station, from the time of the first sketches planners have seen the development of Nancy Grand Coeur as an opportunity to simultaneously develop:
- an area which is exemplary in terms of sustainable development, low in heating and transport energy consumption and economical in water
- but which is also a smart neighbourhood with respect to its urban context, being respectful of existing heritage, consistent with the town’s architecture, well linked to adjacent neighbourhoods, etc.
This responsibility is reflected in the project by four basic orientations included in the project :
- Mutability of the town,
- Mixity,
- Mobility,
- Nature.
