Restructuring of the goods shed

  • Client: SNCF
  • Prime Contractor: SNCF, AREP
  • Delivery: 2006
Located on the Paris-Bercy railway grounds, upstream from the Gare de Lyon mainline station, the Gabriel Lamé goods shed has been remodelled to ensure the continuation of its goods activity.
The facility is bordered by housing on the south, by SNCF rail tracks to the north and east, and to the west, on the plot of land conceded to the Paris city authorities, by a school and other planned buildings. A single goods track has been preserved, which is covered and runs along the façade, while truck access is via the north façade. The roof structure over the track is a steel shell beneath which trains can be unloaded in all weathers; it also serves to conceal the track from view and to protect nearby housing from noise. The project demonstrates SNCF`s efforts to soften views of the site in its relationship with the surrounding urban fabric.
