Jinan East Station is like a City Waiting Hall, a piece of quiet and open space covered by a double curved roof composed of a group of parabola arches.
The train station is part of the city center around which the district will be developed. The urban area that will be next to the station is characterized by two different kind of density: towers on the sides and low rise buildings on the front of the entrance. The station includes bus station, two metro lines and all the system of circulation for taxi and car direct access. The main high-speed lines are connecting Qingdao to Tianjin. The train station welcomes 27 lines on 13 platforms, including two speed lines without stop. The pick of passengers will be 3500 people per hour in 2025.
The station’s saddle shape is formed by twenty large tridimensional arch structures with gradual changes in span and height. The hyperbolic shape roof of the station with the folding Canopy together makes a new iconic image for the newly developed east district of Jinan. The hyperbolic shape roof allows the passenger from outside the station to the center of the waiting room to feel the variation of natural light, acoustics and views.
Its roof structure will have one of the biggest spanning arches in China

Its interior was designed for a new perception of comfort in a transportation public space.
It was chosen as a representation of China’s futuristic development vision and engineering prowess and aims to inspire all people that use the building. With high ceilings and open spaces that are naturally fit, as well as good ventilation and featured temperature controls, the station halls will create a pleasant escape from the busy city outside the doors. The design features sky lights in the roof structure and will have glass curtain walls surrounding the waiting hall to provide natural light and landscape views in all directions. Sound absorbing materials will be installed to fit the arched structure and provide comfortable acoustic levels in the open spaces. The transition from the lower ceiling level spaces in the centre of the building to the open plan areas on either side, will accentuate the impressive scale of the station halls.

When the construction of Jinan East Railway Station is completed, its roof structure will have one of the biggest spanning arches in China. With 408 meters in length and 180 meters in span it will also be one of the largest arch structures in China.

China, The assembly of steel structure in progress of Jinan East Railway Station
2018.04.19
The construction of the concrete part of Jinan East Railway Station project is nearly completed. The processing of the steel structure of the main roof and its assembly is currently in great progress. The roof steel structure is planned to be completed soon this year. When the construction of Jinan East Railway Station will be achieved, with 408 meters in length and 180 meters in span, the roof structure will be one of the largest arch structures in China.

The project begins at 2015 and the construction works will be completed at the end of 2018. AREP was invited by China Railway Design Corporation (Formerly named as The Third Railway Survey and Design Institute Group Corporation) to participate into the design work of Jinan East Railway Station. With abundant experience of railway station design, AREP proposed a entirely new design concept for the station building.
