The station has been designed to support the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and forms a major interchange hub on the high-speed rail line connecting Beijing to Zhangjiakou as well as part of the transport scheme for the megalopolis of Jin Jin Ji.
The high-speed rail line connecting Beijing to Zhangjiakou has been designed to support the organisation of the 2022 Winter Olympics. Qinghe train station constitutes a major interchange hub on this new high-speed rail line.

Qinghe train station is located in the north-east of Beijing, at the edge of the fifth ring road, where once stood one of the stations of the first rail line designed.
The immediate environment of the project is complex as the existing rail tracks and viaducts for the metro lines and the motorway fragment the city. The project is designed to fit the environment in the best way and meets the challenges of accessibility, intermodality, fluidity, safety, image and urban development.
