MOROCCO: INAUGURATION OF CASABLANCA'S SECOND TRAM LINE

Share news
On 23 January 2019, His Majesty King Mohammed VI inaugurated the second line of the Casablanca tramway.

The event completes a three-year construction process led by the Systra/AREP/CID consortium in close collaboration with the client (Casa Transport SA), the operator (RATP Dev), and the local authorities. The event was celebrated at the Sidi Bernoussi maintenance centre, a facility designed by AREP to ensure the maintenance and storage of the rolling stock.
The tram line spans 20 kilometres and includes two urban plazas, 22 stations designed to be accessible to people with mobility impairments, two maintenance facilities as well as landscaped areas featuring some 800 palm trees and 1,200 trees that provide shade. Moreover, the second tram line connects at three points with the four lines that will complete the Casablanca transport network by 2022.
The tram line will support the demographic and urban development of the economic capital of Morocco in an environmentally-friendly manner and contribute to bringing the peripheral districts closer to the city centre.
