AREP has been called on for its expertise in engineering and design to take part in the development and operation of Senegal's new Express Regional Rail (TER) project.
Apart from carrying out the studies for eight rail stops, two new railway stations and the exteriors of Dakar and Rufisque stations, AREP has designed and supervised the construction of the rolling stock maintenance and storage facility (capacity for 22 items of rolling stock).
The maintenance depot is under construction and consists of:
  • a maintenance and storage facility allowing to assemble, maintain and store the wagon bodies (7.5 ha),
  • an infrastructure maintenance facility allowing to keep network equipment in good condition (1.6 ha).
The studies and construction of this long-awaited maintenance facility take place within extremely tight deadlines and involve an international multidisciplinary team. The site is expected to open on 14 January 2019.

Over time, the Express Regional Rail project will relieve the increasingly congested capital of Senegal and connect in 45 minutes the centre of Dakar to Blaise Diagne Airport, which was inaugurated in December 2017.
